Christmas Plum Cake craving

Had bought a rich plum cake just after XMas. We have a tradition of eating plum cake for Christmas even though we do not make it at home. Over the years we have had a fair share of good and not so good plum cakes. In fact, I bought this cake after couple of bad experiences on cakes I bought just before this XMas.
I thought will share this longish review after a few days and after we had finished the cake , rather than provide an instant feedback (not my style). Plus, for our family Dream a Dozen represents a very high quality company and team, we are rather focussed deeply on each creation that we buy from D-a-D.
First a disclaimer, I am not an expert or even a plebian on plum cake recipes, so am not so sure that I am indeed the right person to comment. I will just go by mine and my families reactions, so would request you to treat it accordingly.
Let me start with a couple of good points :
(i) It was definitely rich (richer than previous cakes i bought this Xmas)
(ii) The sweetness was reasonably balanced, without being overwhelming
(iii) A rich presentation of almonds was appealing

Now for the not so good
(i) It didn't still feel like a 'classic' plum cake (we kept comparing in our head to some of the so called real good ones we have in the past)
(ii) It lacked the strength and fluffiness that we have come to expect from plum cakes (could be because you don't add eggs)
(iii) The flavour that "rum" gives was not there (I know you dont add rum, but if there was anything to fill that gap, we could not feel it)
(iv) Would have loved roasted almonds instead of regular almonds (and there were many of them)
(v) It felt like that the almonds dominated over the "raisins". Not sure if classic raisins were there, but it did feel like some were there. Raisins for us are an integral part and its flavours were not coming through

Overall it was a very neutral experience. Didn't leave us excited as usually D-A-D offerings do.

Thanks

Came here from LBB recommendation and don't regret

It's so moist and bouncy and the taste of rum is just perfect! I've never seen almonds on a plum cake before but I loved the crunch :)
